About

Low budget period drama shooting in Los Angeles seeks one experienced screen cat with one trainer/handler for approximately five shoot days, presently scheduled for November 9–11 and December 3–4. (Dates still subject to change.) Nadja is the beloved cat and frequent companion of the film’s young protagonist, Brad, and most of her scenes are quiet, domestic interactions with him. Although the total crew will be approximately ten people, fewer will be present in the immediate filming area during the cat’s work, and the cat will interact primarily with the actor playing Brad. We are hoping to cast a cat whose existing repertoire already covers most of the required behaviors, with minimal production-specific training. The work is largely basic screen-cat behavior: hold/stay, A-to-B movement, settling on beds/laps/tables, jumping to marks, comfortable handling by actors, attention/eyeline work, and several simple interactions. We are flexible in terms of breed and physical type. Ideally, Nadja would be a lithe gray, gray-tabby, or similarly distinctive domestic shorthair, with a calm and affectionate temperament. All violent or distressing action will be performed with an inanimate model; the live cat’s work is limited to safe, non-stressful behavior. A detailed scene-by-scene cat-action breakdown is available. We are particularly interested in hearing from trainers whose cat already performs most of these behaviors and who may be able to offer an economical five-day package.
