Waffle’s name comes from a Waffle House location near the Louis Armstrong International Airport in New Orleans, close to his birthplace. We hoped that as Waffle grew older, he would be as lively as this particular restaurant. Not the case—he’s super chill. His middle name, Orangejello, is inspired by the urban legend noted in Freakonomics, the popular 2005 book that applied economic theories to non-economic issues. His last name, Cucamonga, is our "House Name." Embracing 1960s gay Vogueing and ballroom culture, we chose Cucamonga as a symbol of our collective identity. It also playfully nods to Waffle's fathers Jared and Joel’s childhood fantasies of traveling to far awy lands and being silly gooses on sandy sea shores.
